Four Nepalese women, who have embarked on a mission to conquer the highest peaks in the seven continents, have scaled their fifth challenge in South America.
The expedition comprises seven women climbers from different ethnic communities of Nepal but only four - Chunu Shrestha, Nimdoma Sherpa, Asha Kumari Singh and Pema Diki Sherpa - reached the summit of the 6,960.8-metre Mount Aconcagua in Argentina.
They planted the national flag on the peak on February 23, the Nepal Tourism Board announced today.
Three members of the "Seven Summits Women Team" withdrew after reaching 6,000 metres because of unfavourable conditions.
Aconcagua was their fifth ascent. Others include the 2,228-metre Mount Kosciuszko in Australia, Mount Elbrus (5,642 m) in Europe and the 5,895-metre Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.
The team's first successful ascent was Mount Everest in Asia in 2008.
Their next target will be Mount Denali (5,500 m) in North America and Mount Vinson (4,892 m) in Antarctica.
During their stay in Argentina and Brazil, the team will interact with students, women and environmental groups and promote Nepal's tourist destinations.
The expedition is supported by the Nepal government, Nepal Tourism Board and Trekking Agencies' Association.
