Taking cues from the latest fad of destination weddings among new age brides and grooms, designer Narendra Kumar has based his new winter-festive line around the D-day celebrations.
Titled "Monaco Diaries", Narendra says he has kept the garments light and breezy, in order to maintain the wearability factor as it is difficult to travel with weighty outfits.
"The collection is about destination weddings, the whole wedding story, and the journey. From sunny brunches, sangeet cocktail to the grand wedding. I think modern bride and grooms are changing, so the silhouettes are changing as per their needs.
"I mean if it is a destination wedding then one cannot carry a 60 kgs lehenga. So, the wearability factor is very important. Also I think nowadays, brides and grooms need class and not something garish," Narendra told PTI.
The designer said he has inculcated western style sensibilities, a la Audry Hepburn and Grace Kelly, and blended it with Indian taste, but has not compromised on elegance.
"My collection is elegant, inspired from Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. It is all about old-world charm, it is modern yet true to the new-age Indian style. It is elegant and through this I am trying to take you away from the daily humdrums of life and transporting you to a bygone era," he said.
The colour palette of the women's collection reflects the theme story with usage of soothing and typical wedding hues of mints, lavenders, maroons and reds.
Narendra, known for his intricate detailing and extensive work on menswear, has introduced new colours this time.
"For the mens line I have introduced new colours like beige, lavender, even burgundy. There will also be ample light prints on the garments."
The designer has kept his distance from the regular salwar and kurtas and delved into skirts, printed jackets, long skirts, long jackets and contemporary gowns.
"There is no salwar and kurta as such but there are variations of it. It is a very global line," he said.
Not just the design, but Narendra has also worked hard in the music department and has collaborated with Nishant for it.
"It goes in sync with the whole line. It has come together great."
The designer's show on the third day of the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week will be attended by actresses Amrita Puri and Pallavi Sharda.
