Just after the election to the Speaker's post, a number of members from BJP and Congress delivered short speeches to congratulate him.
However, Congress MLA from Chandni Chowk Parlad Singh Sawhney raised the issue of a defeated AAP candidate accompanying a government delegation to his constituency.
"The AAP candidate, who lost to me, was touring the Jamuna Bazaar area with the Delhi Jal Board CEO," Sawhney said.
When Dhir said he will discuss the issue with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was not present in the House, almost all BJP and Congress members rose on their feet saying the Speaker is supreme in the House and he does not need to consult anybody.
Members of both the parties raised the issue of another AAP leader Kumar Vishwas attending a press conference with the water body chief.
"This was a case of breach of privilege of members and being a Speaker you hold a constitutional post, which is bigger than the government. You have to protect the rights of the members.
"The rules won't change even if the government has changed," he said.
Responding to the queries of Congress and BJP MLAs, senior Minister Manish Sisodia said "they (the officers) will go if the Aam Aadmi says. They will even go if any member of the House asks them to visit any site."
