NGO appeals publishers to donate unsold inventory of edu books

Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, a disability empowerment not for profit organisation based out of Mumbai has appealed to over 500 publishing houses to donate educational books to help low income schools and colleges in various districts across Maharashtra.
"As a part of our 'Mission Million Books' project, we seek to distribute 1 million educational books to 10,000 low income schools and colleges in India by 2018 for free. This is our 20th year of our Book Project to promote global literacy and we will continue the good work," Rajiv Mehta, Trustee Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, said.
He said that 'Mission Million Books' is a pan-India initiative aimed at providing the underserved with access to quality educational materials for their growth and advancement.

The NGO aims to gather educational books, picture books, children's story books, blank painting books, dictionaries, Atlas, Indian comic books among other things.
"We are not looking for school text books, exercise books or rough books. Regional language books for children are welcome. Magazines for children which are based on everlasting educational content will bring in cheer to first time readers in these libraries," Mehta added.
In 2016, Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust in association with Alibaba Group and Crossword bookstores launched the Mission Million Books project.
The 'Mission Million Books' initiative will be organising book donation exhibitions in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Baramati, Vadodara and Ahmedabad over the next few months, from where educational institutes will be able to handpick books suitable for their libraries free of cost.
