Concerned over reports of 2,230 dalit and adivasi girls going missing from five districts of Madhya Pradesh in last seven years, the National Human Rights Commission today asked for a status report from the state government.
The NHRC took suo motu cognisance of a media report about 2,230 missing girls from five districts of Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Panna, and Chhatarpur in the Sagar Division of Bundelkhand of Madhya Pradeshw who were allegedly being pushed into flesh trade.
The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Madhya Pradesh and called for reports within four weeks, an NHRC statement said.
The Commission observed that the contents of the report, if true, raise a serious violation of human rights of the victims.
The girls -- mostly dalits and adivasi -- were being lured and sold into flesh trade in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. And the police, allegedly, was also colluding with the perpetrators of trafficking of girls, the NHRC statement said.
