NHRC to conduct inquiry over police atrocity allegations in MP

The National Human Rights Commission today said it will conduct an on-spot inquiry into allegations of atrocity on a few Scheduled Tribe women by police, including rape, sexual assault and molestation in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
The Commission has taken cognisance of a complaint, lodged by nine ST women residents of Bhutia and Holibayada villages of Dhar, alleging that they became victims of police atrocities on January 25, the NHRC said in a statement.
"They include four victims of gangrape, three of molestation and two minor girl victims of sexual assault," it said.
The Commission has observed that the allegations raise serious issues of violation of human rights by the police personnel.

"It (Commission) has asked Director General (Investigation), NHRC to depute a team for a spot enquiry and submit a report at the earliest," it said.
