NIA files charge sheet against 3 accused in FICN seizure case

The National Investigation Agency has filed a supplementary charge sheet against three accused in connection with the seizure of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 49.88 lakh at IGI airport here three years ago, the NIA said today.
The agency has charged three Nepalese nationals -- Noor Mohammad, at present living in Dubai, and Abi Mohammad Ansari and Farmullah Ansari (both arrested) for smuggling the fake currency.
"The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) HQ, New Delhi, on April 18, 2014 had recovered 4,988 numbers of fake Indian currency notes (FICNs) of Rs 1,000 denomination having a total face value of Rs. 49.88 lakh from a passenger Ekramul Ansari, resident of East Champaran, Bihar at IGI Airport, New Delhi travelling from Dubai, the UAE to New Delhi," the NIA said in a statement.
The case was handed over to the NIA by the central government.
The NIA had filed the first charge sheet in this case against accused Ekramul Ansari and Sharda Shankar Mahto on January 2, 2015.
After the trial, both the accused persons were convicted by the court on December 9, 2016 and sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 1000 each, it said.
"A supplementary charge sheet has been filed against accused Noor Mohammad, Abi Mohammad Ansari and Farmullah Ansari...as further investigation has revealed that the FICNs seized in this case were procured and supplied by the accused persons from Dubai, the UAE in pursuance of the criminal conspiracy hatched by all of them," the agency said.
