The National Investigation Agency (NIA) seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of face value of Rs 1.92 lakh from the possession of a 32-year-old man in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, the probe agency said today.
Acting on information, an NIA team laid a trap in the periphery of a hotel in Farakka town of the district yesterday, an NIA spokesman said.
Around 6 pm, the accused, Abdul Rahim, was intercepted by the NIA team at a footpath near the hotel. When he was frisked by NIA officials, they found fake Indian currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination in his pocket, he said.
It is suspected that the fake notes were printed and smuggled from across the border, he said.
The seized FICN has a have value of Rs 1.92 lakh, the spokesperson said.
An FIR was registered at the Farakka police station against Rahim, a resident of Malda district, and others under IPC section 489B (Using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes), among others, the spokesman said.
