Family members of slain NIC engineer Shikhar Srivastava and the bar associations of Shravasti and Bahraich have demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder, in which BSP MLA Vijay Kumar and his wife have been named accused.
The associations, which had observed strike yesterday, demanded the arrest of BSP MLA Kumar, his wife Mridula Ananad and other accused and warned of intensifying their agitation.
Gaya Prasad Misra of the Bahraich Bar Association and Dinesh Shukla of the Shravasti Bar Association said the strike was in protest of the murder.
"Though the police is saying that the MLA is absconding, he took part in the polling for UP Legislative Council polls yesterday in the presence of police and officials and this raises doubts over the police's role and so we want the CBI to investigate the case," they said, in a memorandum to the UP Director General of Police.
Srivastava's father Dinesh Gandhi said a CBI inquiry was needed in the murder as it concerned high profile people.
Srivastava, a resident of Bahraich and network engineer at National Informatics Centre (NIC), was killed and his body was dumped in Badaosarai road in Balrahi area.
The family members of the engineer have alleged hand of BSP MLA Kumar behind the incident.
