Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter has announced his wife Lauren Kitt is 16 weeks pregnant with a son, their first child.
Nick, 35, made the announcement on an episode of "Dancing with the Stars" and also revealed that Lauren previously suffered a miscarriage, reported People magazine.
"We've been trying to have a baby for about a year now. It's been rocky, to be quite honest with you. There have been times when we thought it wouldn't happen," he said.
Lauren, 32, said the struggles to have a baby have been particularly tough on her husband.
"It was really hard on Nick. Just watching him get so excited about something, and see him get so hurt, it was hard," said Lauren.
After an emotional dance dedicated to his wife, Nick joined Lauren backstage, where the couple learnt the sex of their baby on live TV. They opened a giant gift box, and a dozen blue balloons floated to the ceiling.
"My wife and I are happy to personally announce that we are pregnant," Nick said in a statement following the show.
"It has been our dream to have a family together and we cannot wait to welcome our first child into the world."
The couple were married in April 2014. Their relationship and road to the altar was documented on VH1's reality show I Heart Nick Carter in 2014.
