Nifty climbs 31 points on fresh buying

Nifty recouped previous session's losses to end marginally higher by 31 points on fresh buying in metal, media, energy, infra, auto and realty counters.
The broader markets outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap index rising by 1.37 per cent, despite weakness in Asia stocks.
On the other hand, profit booking was witnessed in PSU banking stocks after huge gains overnight.
On the global front, Asian markets fell, with Japan's Nikkei losing 1 per cent and China's Shanghai down 0.96 percent. European stocks were trading mixed.
The 50-share Nifty resumed higher at 8,519.65 and hovered in a range of 8,548.95 and 8,489.80 before closing at 8,514.20, showing a net rise of 31.10 points, or 0.37 per cent.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Metal rose by 1.69 per cent, followed by media (1.69 per cent), energy (1.13 per cent), infra (1.13 per cent), auto (0.89 per cent), realty (0.76 per cent) and financial services (0.66 per cent).
PSU Banks, IT and pharma ended down by 1.23 per cent, 0.15 per cent and 0.04 per cent, respectively.
Index gainers included Tata Motors (3.29 per cent), Tata Motors DVR (3.26 per cent), Bharti InfraTel (2.61 per cent), Zee Ltd (2.52 per cent) and Power Grid (2.37 per cent).
However, Bajaj Auto fell by 1.80 per cent, followed by ACC (1.56 per cent), Bank of Baroda (1.02 per cent), Sun Pharma (0.96 per cent) and SBI (0.95 per cent).
A total 945 stocks advanced, 647 declined, while 78 ruled stable. Total securities that hit their price bands today stood at 111.
Turnover in cash segment eased to Rs 20,438.56 crore from Rs 21,467.83 crore on Thursday.
A total of 11,129.82 lakh shares changed hands in 81,26,505 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 104,99,050.23 crore.
