Nifty ends at all-time high, up 15 pts

Extending gains for the second straight session, benchmark Nifty settled at life-time highs at 9,786.05, a marginal gain of 15 points, following buying in Auto, IT and Energy sectors amid positive global leads.
The broader NSE Nifty zoomed past the 9,800-mark for the first time to hit a historic high of 9,830.05 but failed to maintain record levels on late sell-off, and settled at 9,786.05, up 15 points, or 0.15 per cent.
It broke its previous record closing of 9,771.05, hit yesterday after touching an intra-day high of 9,782.15.
Overseas, most European stocks edged lower as investors took a cautious approach ahead of the US Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen's testimony to Congress. Most Asian stocks settled higher as investors held on to their big bets ahead of the earnings season in the US.
It saw an intra-day movement of about 51.2 points.
Sector-wise, Auto gained 0.75 per cent, IT 0.67 per cent and Energy 0.24 per cent.
Selling witnessed in Realty 1.53 per cent, PSU Bank 1.26 per cent, Pharma 0.84 per cent and Metal 0.48 per cent.
Major index gainers were Hindalco 2.48 per cent, Bajaj Auto 2.27 per cent, Tata Motors 2.24 per cent, BPCL 2.05 per cent and NTPC 2.03 per cent.
Losers included Bharti Airtel 2.53 per cent, Bank of Baroda 2.37 per cent, Cipla 1.96 per cent, Wipro 1.88 per cent and Coal India 1.66 per cent.
A total of 650 scrips advanced, 1,041 declined, while 75 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 109.
Turnover in the cash segment was Rs 26,457.91 crore.
A total of 14,486.08 lakh shares changed hands in 9,742,749 trades.
The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 12,776,543 crore.
