A Nigerian youth was allegedly robbed by unidentified car-borne men who offered him lift in their vehicle in south-east Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area, police said today.
The 24-year-old victim, identified as Samuel, is married to a Kolkata-based girl and had been living in a rented accommodation in Sangam Vihar here for the past several months.
"Last night, he had gone to Deoli village to meet someone. While returning, he lost his way. He then approached a car in which five persons were sitting and sought directions from them. The occupants of the car told him that they would drop him at his destination," said a police official.
"Samuel sat in the car. However, minutes after giving him lift, the occupants of the car snatched his wallet, mobile and other valuables. When he resisted, they thrashed him with an iron rod and threw him out of the moving vehicle and fled, the official said.
He was spotted by a passerby who then informed police. He was rushed to a nearby government hospital.
A case has been registered in this regard at Pul Prahlad Pur police station against unknown assailants, he said.
The victim's statement has been recorded and several teams have been formed to look into the case.
Investigators are checking the CCTV footage of the area to identify the car and the accused, he added.
