Units of Border Security Force in Rajasthan's border districts have been put on alert in the wake of cyclone storm 'Nilofar', even as Meteorological department has predicted only mild rainfall in the coming 48 hours.
"As the cyclone storm weakened over Gujarat, districts on Rajasthan's border will have only drizzles or mild rainfall in next 48 hours as the major threat was over," a state MeT director said today.
Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore and Jodhpur will be having cloud cover that might cause drizzles or mild rains in next 48 hours, B N Vishnoi, state MeT director told PTI here.
He also denied possibility of strong winds across the state.
Most places in Western Rajasthan were witnessing misty and cloudy conditions since yesterday, he said, adding there might be a foggy weather in western and other north-east regions due to fall in temperature following influx of heavy moisture.
As 'Nilofar' cyclone fizzling out over Gujarat, a low pressure area usually called "depression" was developed in the North East of Arabian sea, he said.
Under influence of the low pressure area system, moderate rainfall will occur at many places in Kutch and Saurashtra regions in the next 24 hours, he said.
"Risk and fear arising due to cyclone is over except for rains in some parts of the state," he stressed.
As a precautionary measure, the BSF had alerted its units on the border line of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar districts, while the district and police administration were also alerted to be on toes to meet any eventuality.
