Nine pilgrims from Gujarat, including two women, were killed and five suffered injuries when a Tempo Traveller carrying them fell into a deep gorge in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Friday.
The accident took place near Sungar around 4 pm when the pilgrims were returning after offering prayers at the Himalayan shrine of Gangotri, District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said.
The vehicle fell into a 60-metre deep gorge, killing nine people on the spot.
The injured were rushed to Bhatwari hospital, from where they were referred to the district hospital in Uttarkashi, Patwal said.
