A modern laboratory of National Pharmaceutical Education and Research Institute (NIPR) would be set at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh with a view to providing testing facility to the pharma industry in the state.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between the state government and NIPR at the office of NIPR in Mohali for setting up the composite pharma testing lab, costing Rs 12 crore, on official release said.
All modern facilities would be provided in the lab for testing of pharma products and the state government would bear the entire cost of the project while technical assistance would be provided by NIPR.
With the setting up of the laboratory at Baddi, the drug manufacturing units in the state would be immensely benefited, as entrepreneurs have to go outside the state for testing of different pharma products.
Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri had raised the issue with Union Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister Anant Kumar last year to set up this laboratory at Baddi.
Additional Director IndustriesTilak Ram Sharma revealed that more than 70 per cent medicines were being manufactured at Baddi and setting up of this laboratory would benefit the entire Pharma industry.
The state government would also soon develop a bulk drug park at Baddi, he added.
