The son of writer Nirad C Chaudhuri, Dhruva N Chaudhuri, today refuted claims that his father had any link with the arrest of Sarat Chandra Bose, with whom he worked as a secretary, by the British on December 11, 1941.
Reacting to a plea by Subhash Chandra Bose's family seeking immediate declassification of CBI files on Nirad's alleged role with British intelligence agencies, Dhruva said that Professor Saugata Bose, grandson on Sarat Chandra Bose, had himself in his book "His Majesty's Opponent" clearly mentioned how the British Government had broken the "Japanese telegraphic code and had all information".
Sarat Chandra Bose was the elder brother of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
Dhruva Chaudhuri, in an e-mail statement, also clarified that Nirad continued to work for Sarat Bose's family till the end of December 1941 when Sarat's wife Bibhabati Bose said his salary could not be paid and he joined All India Radio only on March 19, 1942 and not a day before Sarat's arrest as has been claimed.
