Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today expressed profound grief over the demise of veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi.
In his condolence message, Kumar said that Dasmunsi's death has not only caused irreparable loss to the field of politics but also the sporting arena. Dasmunsi played an important role in popularising football in the country, the CM said in a release.
Kumar said during his long political career Dasmunsi served as the Information and Broadcasting minister in the past Congress rule besides holding several other key positions, the release said.
Kumar prayed to the almighty to provide strength to his family members, followers and admirers to bear the irreparable loss, it said.
Dasmunsi, aged 72, was in coma after suffering a stroke in 2008. He was hospitalised since then. He passed away at a New Delhi hospital this morning.
Dasmunsi was heading the All India Football Federation when he took ill in 2008.
