Nitish visits Gaya, reviews preparations for Pitri Paksh fair

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday reviewed the preparations for the upcoming "Pitri Paksh" (ancestral worship) fair to be held in the holy town of Gaya.

Hindus from world over visit the town for performing the ritual of "pind daan" during the fair which will be held from September 24 to October 08.

The Chief Minister held the review meeting at the collectorate in Gaya, where he was on a tour, and issued instructions for ensuring proper cleanliness and round the clock power supply.

"There is going to be no scarcity of funds..... please ensure that visitors have a good experience and they return with happy memories", Kumar was quoted as having said in an official release.

The Chief Minister was also told during the meeting that elaborate security arrangements have been made for the "Pitri Paksh Mela" during which 72 camps of the police will be set up at various places and more than 100 CCTV cameras will be installed.

He was also informed that modern technology has been put to use and a mobile app and a helpline have also been set up for the benefit of pilgrims.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by cabinet colleagues Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma - the minister in-charge of the district - and Prem Kumar, local MP Hari Manjhi, MLAs Abhay Sinha and Vinod Yadav besides top state officials like Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar and DGP K S Dwivedi.

During his tour of the central Bihar town, Kumar also unveiled statues of legendary social justice leader Jagdev Prasad and former Union minister Upendra Nath Verma.
