A no confidence motion brought by Congress and Left Front against the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government was admitted in the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday.

Speaker Biman Banerjee admitted the motion in the first session.

Leader of Opposition and state Congress leader Abdul Mannan had last month announced the party's decision to bring the motion against the government and had accused it of being "undemocratic".

He had alleged that the ruling party had poached Congress' MLAs and other elected representatives and had also raised the issue of baby trafficking, swindling of money by chit funds, among others.

TMC is, however, comfortably positioned in the House, having won 211 seats in the last Assembly polls. On top of that, five members from opposition Congress party recently joined the ruling party.

As a result of this, the strength of the Opposition precariously stands on the support of 39 Congress legislators and 31 MLAs from the Left front.

In totality, Bengal assembly has 294 legislative seats.
