Much to the dismay of students seeking admission to Delhi University's Hindu college through Extra Curricular Activities, the college administration has decided not to enroll any student through the ECA quota.
DU reserves 5 per cent seats in all its colleges under the sports and extra-curricular activities quota. However, this year the college has decided to enroll students only through the sports quota.
"The governing body of the college had decided last year to not admit students through ECA quota. The same will be applicable this year too," Officiating Principal, Hindu College, Anju Srivastava said.
Last year, the college had scrapped the admissions through these quotas following complaints of alleged irregularities in the selection process.
College chairman S P N Punj had then justified the decision saying the action was taken in lieu of the complaints of irregularities forwarded to him by the university Vice- Chancellor.
No decision, however, has been taken by Hindu college yet on whether it will admit students under the quota next year onwards.
Following complaints of irregularities and bias in selections, DU has this year revamped its policy for sports quota admissions. While the preliminary fitness test has been centralised, the varsity is conducting videography of the entire process and has set up a three-tier grievance committee to deal with complaints, if any.
But, the admissions through ECA quota across other DU colleges are being conducted on the previous pattern. The trials are being held at respective colleges and the students were required to apply to each of them separately.
Hindu college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Science, Humanities and Commerce and is among the most sought after institutions of Delhi University.
