"I believe a film should be good. The promo should be the deciding factor for people whether they want to see the film or not. It (promo) should be good enough so that people would want to see the film," Salman said here last night during the trailer launch of his upcoming film 'Jai Ho'.
"Today it is about Rs 200 crore, 300 crore or 400 crore but I don't see it that way. There is no ego that if Shah Rukh and Aamir's film has done 'x' business, then my film should also do so and cross it (the record mark)," he said.
Salman did not have any film release this year, while SRK gave his biggest hit 'Chennai Express' in 2013, which earned Rs 226 crore at the box office in India. Aamir's 'Dhoom 3' is yet to release.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic drama 'Ram-Leela', featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, has reportedly earned Rs 100 crore at the box office. Even Prabhudeva's 'R...Rajkumar', with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha, is also doing good business.
When asked if there is any pressure to break the ecord of 'Ram-Leela' and 'R...Rajkumar', he quipped, "If these are good films then I don't want 'Jai Ho' to be in good film category."
"Since the time I have started wearing Aamir's hat, I am getting those kind of genius marketing ideas for film. I hope 'Jai Ho' creates 'Dhoom'," he said on a lighter note.
Salman's 'Jai Ho' is slated to release next month.
