No let-up in cold conditions, Karnal coldest at 5 deg C

Most places in Haryana and Punjab continued to be under the grip of biting chill, with Karnal recording the lowest minimum temperature in both states at 5 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave swept Karnal in Haryana, where the minimum plummeted seven notches below normal, making it the coldest place in the two states today, a Met Department official said here.
Hisar, too, experienced a cold night at 6.6 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal. Ambala recorded a low of 10.1 degrees Celsius, down three degrees against normal.
Adampur in Punjab recorded its minimum temperature at seven degrees below normal at 5.5 degrees Celsius while Bathinda at a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius and Halwara at 8.2 degrees Celsius also reeled under biting cold.
Cold conditions also prevailed in Patiala, where the minimum temperature settled at 7.5 degrees Celsius, nine notches below normal, while Ludhiana recorded a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal.
Amritsar, too, had a cold night at 7.7 deg C, two notches below normal. Union Territory Chandigarh registered a low of 9.2 deg C, down three notches against normal.
The MeT official said that minimum temperature will hover below normal limits in Punjab and Haryana over the next few days.
