No new deaths were reported due to encephalitis in West Bengal since Sunday after sustained precautionary measures were taken by the health department.
"Since yesterday no one has died of encephalitis but we have received six new suspected cases. Our efforts are showing results. Things will be under control soon," West Bengal Health Services director Biswaranjan Satpathy, who is camping in the affected areas of north Bengal, told PTI.
The death toll in the vector-borne disease since January this year remained static at 111.
Five of the new cases are admitted to North Bengal Medical College while another patient is admitted in Jalpaiguri district hospital.
"We are opening new testing centres in Cooch Behar, Balurghat, etc," the health official said adding fever clinics have also been opened in several sub-divisional and block-level hospitals.
Municipalities and other local bodies in the seven affected districts of north Bengal have taken up a huge cleanliness drive and undertaken fogging activities regularly to control the spread of disease, official sources said.
