Opposition will stop the NDA government at the Centre from convening a joint session of the Parliament to pass "anti-people bills" by not allowing voting in the Rajya Sabha, CPI(M) MP Sitaram Yechury said here today.
"The government is saying if we don't adhere to what they are saying in Rajya Sabha, they will pass bills by convening a joint session of the Parliament. The process of convening a joint session is, one House has to accept a bill and the other House has to reject it," Yechury said.
"We won't allow voting in Rajya Sabha. We will send every bill to the Select Committee so that a joint session cannot be called," Yechury said while addressing a programme.
The CPI(M) Politburo member said he has learnt that BJP would resort to ordinances, even if bills were not passed in the Rajya Sabha.
"The way is through ordinances. Even the President has wondered why the government is bringing so many ordinances. This is an authoritarian tendency. Bringing ordinances one after another is nothing but undermining the Parliament," he said.
The Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal termed Narendra Modi as a three-in-one Prime Minister -- Indira Gandhi's emergency regime, Narsimha Rao's neo-economic policies and Atal Bihari Vajpayee's politics.
Yechury alleged that spread of communalism during the BJP regime was nothing but a political ploy to create a 'Hindu Rashtra' by projecting the minority community as the enemy.
"Communalism is also a ploy to keep people divided so that no people's movement is formed against the government, pursuing anti-people policies one after another," he added.
