No rainfall occurred in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today as the temperature in the region shot up by up to five notches above normal.
The maximum temperature in Punjab and Haryana hovered between one to five degrees Celsius above normal, the Met office said here.
With no rains in the region, the water levels in Yamuna and other rivers receeded drastically in Haryana where certain areas in Yamunanagar, Karnal and Sonipat district were marooned recently due to pre-monsoon showers. The situation in flood prone areas has eased out, the officials said.
However, the humidity levels in the region shot up to 85 per cent adding to the woes of the people. Besides, frequent disruption of power supply in several areas of the region had compounded the problems of the people.
Amritsar sizzled at a high of 43.4 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal.
While Bhiwani braved a high of 42.4 deg C, the maximum at Narnaul was 42.3 deg C, one notch above normal.
Among other places, Hisar had a high of 42.2 deg C, two notches above normal followed by 39.6 deg C each at Ambala and Patiala, three notches each above normal.
