Northwesterly winds will bring down the minimum and maximum temperatures in West Bengal by more than a couple of notches, a senior MeT department official said here on Friday.

Wind movement from the north-west is likely to subside after two days following which, temperatures are likely to rise, Regional Meteorological Centre Director G K Das said.

There is a likelihood of light rain in the state on January 27 and 28, the official said.

Darjeeling town was the coldest place in the state on Friday at 1.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalimpong, also in the Himalayan region, at 6 degrees Celsius.

Coochbehar in north Bengal was the coldest in the plains at 7.1 degrees Celsius, Das said.

Other towns that recorded sub-10 degrees Celsius temperature were Siliguri (8.8), Jalpaiguri (8.9), Purulia (9), Panagarh (9.2) and Sriniketan (9.3), he said.

Kolkata, which recorded a low of 15.1 degrees Celsius, is likely to see a drop in minimum temperature by at least three notches on Saturday, Das added.
