The petitioner, advocate Rajanna, sought constitution of a SIT to probe the high-profile cases including those against the ruling party members filed before the Lokyukta court to ensure "free and impartial investigation" monitored by the high court.
At present the Lokayukta police was investigating such cases.
The petitioner submitted that there was no independent police force in the Lokayukta and all police personnel in the Lokayukta were deputed by the Home department and "Superintendents of the Lokayukta police were totally controlled by the government".
He further contended that since the respondent politicians were "very influential, one cannot expect a fair investigation".
Rajanna also prayed that the SIT work under the supervision of the High Court.
