Babar alias Baquar Akram Ali, a native of Bidar district of Karnataka was nabbed by the police yesterday for committing as many as 102 offences of chain snatching in the city and in Medak district of Telangana, they said.
"Babar, along with his associates committed 102 chain snatching offences during 2012 to 2015," a release by Hyderabad Police said.
Along with Babar, a goldsmith identified as K Ram Prasad, who also hails from Bidar, was also arrested on charge of receiving the stolen valuables.
"Babar is a habitual and most wanted chain snatcher in Hyderabad, Cyberabad Commissionerates and Medak district. Previously, he had been arrested by Mumbai police in a cheating case. After his release from jail, he started committing chain snatching crimes and used to threaten the victims with a knife if they resisted," police said.
Efforts are on to nab five other accused, who are absconding, they said.
