Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra inaugurated the Orissa High Court museum, which was the erstwhile official residence of State chief justices, located inside the famous Barabati fort here.
The latest repository follows a police museum, a maritime museum and birthplace museums of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Madhusudan Das and Biju Patnaik,
With the assistance of state government, the High Court registry converted the bungalow constructed in 1904 into a museum. At least six rooms of the bungalow will have on display several antique items, important documents, landmark judgements, including the judgements of some freedom fighters and rare portraits of Odisha judiciary.
There was a long standing demand among the members of the judiciary fraternity to have such a museum in the state and this became a reality today, Justice Misra said.
Justice Misra was also felicitated by the staff and judges of Orissa High Court in the premises of the High Court here. This was Justice Misras first official visit to the state after assuming the coveted post as the head of India judiciary on August 28 this year.
Replying to the warm felicitations he received, Justice Misra profusely thanked all staff, advocates and judges of Orissa High Court and called on everybody to give their best staying within the boundaries of law.
On Saturday, Justice Misra was also felicitated by the Orissa High Court Bar Association.
