Four tiger cubs born at the Pilikula Biological Park have been adopted by an Abu Dhabi-based NRI businessman who paid Rs five lakh to the park for the maintenance of the young ones.
The cubs were born to 9-year-old Netravathy, the royal bengal tigress and 14-year-old Vikram about two months back.
Michael D'Souza, the adopter, was allowed to name the cubs as Amar, Akbar, and Antony and the female as Nisha.
Another tiger, Kumar, born in captivity at the park, aged six years now, has been adopted by Prashanth Shet, a Mangaluru-based businessman who paid Rs two lakh for its maintenance, park director H Jayaprakash Bhandary said in the release.
The park now had 11 tigers, including the cubs.
An adult tiger required about seven to eight kg of meat a day in addition to two kg of chicken.
The park would require about Rs 1,500 a day to maintain a tiger.
The government was not providing a fixed grant for maintenance of animals, reptiles and birds in the park.
Animal and bird lovers could adopt them and such persons would have free entry to the park and an option of naming the birds and animals, the release said.
