A National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) cadre with arms and ammunition was apprehended today in Mariani area of Jorhat district in Assam along the Nagaland border, police sources said.
Acting on a tip-off about the movement of the cadre, police nabbed him from Morongiyal village, under Mariani Police station, along the Assam-Nagaland border and recovered a 9mm pistol along with ammunition and a grenade.
The cadre has been identified as Zonet Aier, they said.
Zonet confesssed before police that he was part of a 16-member group of the underground outfit from Nagaland and was on his way to serve extortion notices to several small tea growers and a big tea company in Jorhat district, the sources said.
Further investigations are on, they said.
