Odisha Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also greeted people on the occasion of the agrarian festival.
"May this divine festival celebrating hard work of our farmer community usher in progress & prosperity #NuakhaiJuhar," Patnaik tweeted.
BJP president Amit Shah and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi too greeted the Odiah people on Nuakhai festival.
People across western Odisha celebrated the festival with religious fervor and devotion today. It is held a day after the Ganesha Chaturthi festival.
The festival began with offering 'Nabanna', newly harvested paddy, to Maa Samaleswari Devi in Sambalpur. Later, the people offered 'Nabanna' to their presiding deities.
It is the most important social festival of Western Odisha and adjoining areas of Simdega in Jharkhand.
