'Oculus' remake not a typical Bollywood horror film: Saqib

Actor Saqib Saleem says the Bollywood adaptation of Hollywood supernatural movie "Oculus" will steer clear of falling in the trap of a typical horror film.
"We have adapted the original movie and have made considerable changes. The script has the essence of 'Oculus' intact and yet there are a lot of new things. The film won't be like a typical Bollywood horror movie," Saqib told PTI.
The yet-untitled movie, like the original film which released in 2013, focuses on the story of a brother-sister, who get separated at a young age due to an antique mirror.
"We are steering away from the template. It is more about the supernatural elements and not ghosts. The concept of the film is very novel and fresh and we don't want to take away the core horror element by adding unnecessary bits," he said.

The 27-year-old "Mere Dad Ki Maruti" star will be sharing screen space with his sister Huma Qureshi for the first time in the Prawaal Raman-directed movie.
Saqib, who plays the younger sibling and is sent to a juvenile home to spend 12 years there, said the relationship he shares with Huma in the film is "very different" from his real-life chemistry with the actress .

"I am excited to work with Huma. We kind of stay together, have coffee together, hang out together, talk all the time, but this is the first time we will be acting together.
"And that too in a horror movie where our characters are very different from what we are, or the relationship we share in real life. It will be very exciting," he said.

While this is the first time Saqib will star in a horror film, Huma has already dabbled in the genre in 2013 with "Ek Thi Daayan".
"Huma has worked in a horror movie earlier but this will be an altogether new experience for me."
Saqib, who made his debut with 2011 Yash Raj Films romantic comedy "Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge", said he loves horror movies.
"I had watched the original once and then watched it again after I was offered the role. But I didn't watch it too many times as I didn't want to get trapped what the other actor has done in the role. I want to keep my role as fresh as possible," he said.

When asked if he is onboard Vasan Bala's "Side Hero", the actor said he is not aware if the project is happening.
"Yes, I was in talks with Vasan Bala for his film 'Side Hero' but I don't know what happened to the project. I have no idea if it is shelved or if it will happen."
Saqib has left for London to begin the shoot of the film.
