Odisha to set up 12 new ITIs in 2013-14: Minister

Odisha government has decided to establish at least 12 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state, of which five would be set up under the Kushali Vikas Yojana (KVY) of the Central government and the rest by the state government.
The academic session will start from next year 2014-15 in the ITIs, official sources said.
The decision in this regard was taken at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik last evening. "Five ITIs would be set up in left wing extremist areas of the state, which would be sponsored by Centre. The new ITIs will be set up in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Gajapati districts," said P K Deb, the Minister for Employment, Technical Education and Training.

The Minister said that a decision was also taken at the meeting to increase the intake in ITIs of the state from the present 9,936 students to 46,280 students by the end of the 12th Plan in 2016-17.
The state at present has a total of 632 ITIs of which 603 have been set up by private educational institutions and 29 by the state government, the Minister said adding ITIs would be set up in all 98 blocks where there is no such facility at present.
The Minister also informed that the state government has sanctioned two more IT training institutes for training of teachers, which would be set up at Talcher and Bhubaneswar. The World Bank will fund the two projects, he said.

While Rs 15 cr is to be spent for Talcher institute, Rs 10 cr will be spent for Bhubaneswar institute to be set up at Sailshree Vihar. The government will tie up with Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTDC) for the management of the training institute in Bhubaneswar.
The Minister said the Chief Minister has asked the Chief Secretary to direct the industries to set up Industrial Training Centre (ITC).
While 32 companies have signed MoUs with the government to set up ITCs, only seven have set up such institutions in the state.
