The state vigilance wing today arrested an assistant professor of a medical college on charges of cheating and misappropriation of funds.
Vigilance sleuths are also looking for another professor, suspected to be the key accused, of the same medical college.
A vigilance statement said an assistant professor of the SCB Medical College and Hospital was arrested for misappropriating money from the Odisha State Treatment Fund (OTSF) of which the accused is the nodal officer.
The sleuths are also looking for another professor, also an accused, whose whereabouts are not known, the statement said.
The vigilance department had launched the probe following allegations of abuse of official position, show of undue favour to pharmaceutical companies and embezzling funds while treating patients under the OSTF, it said.
The OSTF was launched in December 2011 by the state government primarily to help/supplement poor patients from BPL category who are suffering from life threatening diseases such as cancer and chronic heart diseases.
After enquiry, the vigilance cell registered a criminal case yesterday against two doctor professors and some pharmaceutical companies, the statement said.
