A high-level meeting held in Jammu today reviewed the arrangements made for the annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to be commenced from July 2, an official spokesman said.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal, stressed on the need for effective coordination among different departments for ensuring fool-proof arrangements for smooth conduct of the Yatra.
The Divisional Commissioner discussed various matters with police and civil administration and also sought suggestions from the civil society members to ensure timely and fool-proof arrangements for the conduct of annual pilgrimage to the South Kashmir cave shrine.
During the meeting, Kotwal discussed various issues to strategize appropriate communication tools to help the pilgrims seeking registration for the Yatra, including need for compulsory health certificate for registration and the do's and don'ts to be followed during the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting also discussed the need for effective traffic regulation from Lakhanpur onwards to ensure smooth movement of the pilgrims to the respective base camps.
The Deputy Commissioners of all en-route districts were directed to conduct mock drills and District Disaster Management Committee meetings with officers, NGOs and volunteers of other organisations to prepare a road map to accommodate the pilgrims in case of emergency, including blocking of road or inclement weather conditions.
Among others P K Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Governor, was also present in the meeting.
