Federal drug enforcement officials say a New York Police Department officer helped her boyfriend run a heroin trafficking ring that spanned from Mexico to New York.
Prosecutors say 31-year-old Yessenia Jimenez was arrested Tuesday on trafficking and weapons charges, with officials saying they turned their apartment into a drug stash house. A Drug Enforcement Agency official says an agent arrested Jimenez with $50,000 and her NYPD service weapon in her possession.
Prosecutors say a months-long investigation into heroin trafficking led them to Jimenez and her boyfriend.
The NYPD says Jimenez has been suspended without pay. She joined the department in 2015. NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill said in a statement the arrest and allegations are troubling. Jimenez declined to comment.
