Taxi aggregator Ola today claimed that it has helped in bringing down carbon dioxide emissions in the city by offering shared rides on its platform to people in the city.
As a part of its social ride-sharing platform, Ola has helped keep 3,75,090 vehicles off the road in Mumbai, since its launch in February 2016, Ola said in a statement.
Apart from lowering the number of cars hitting the road, Ola Share also helped bring down CO2 emission levels by 7,05,660 kilograms as well as saving 2,94,024 litres of fuel across the city, it added.
"Shared mobility is the future of transportation in India and Ola Share has enabled citizens to share their rides and pay only a fraction of the actual trip cost while contributing towards reduction in vehicular pollution and congestion in their city," Raghuvesh Sarup, Head of Categories at Ola, said.
Raghuvesh further added, "At Ola, our mission is to build
mobility for a billion people, and I am excited that growing adoption of shared mobility solutions like Ola Share and Ola Shuttle by eco-friendly citizens of India, will form a large part of this while caring for the environment. Ola Share and Ola Shuttle have helped save several million car rides and more than 21 lakh litres of fuel. Importantly, Ola's shared mobility solutions have prevented emission of over 87 lakh kilograms of CO2 pan India, that's as much as the weight of 2200 Indian elephants!"
A market leader in its segment, Ola Shuttle currently runs more than 500 shuttles, covering 120 routes, serving demand at major metro stations, business districts and other high footfall areas in nine cities across India. Majority of the routes that are covered by Ola Shuttle have been driven by commuters' feedback through the product's unique 'Suggest a Route' feature. The growing popularity of Ola Share has made it one of most preferred choice of the commuters and the offering is running successfully in 7 cities in India.
