Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today donated a racing cycle worth Rs 2.8 lakh to Mohammad Akbar Khan, the first cyclist from the state to get selected for an international event.
Khan has won many national level competitions in cycling.
"Akbar (Khan) has worked hard for reaching to this level. Despite hardships he managed his way into international arena and he deserves all possible support and encouragement," Omar said during a felicitation ceremony at the sportsman home.
Khan, who is from Beerwah constituency represented by Omar, is the second ever national medalist for the state in cycling sport.
Omar expressed hope that Khan would continue to bring laurels to the state and inspire more youngsters to take up athletic sports professionally.
He also donated two tricycles to differently-abled persons of his constituency on this occasion.
