Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said his government was focusing on infrastructure development of the twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu and installing drainage and sewerage system to address problems faced by the growing population.
Inaugurating two modern drainage facilities here, the Chief Minister said, "With the population growing rapidly in cities, management of drainage and sewerage has attained greater dimension. The state government has initiated several measures to address the issue. Several projects are now being implemented and many have been completed."
The drainage facilities at Pohru-Chanapora and Bemina-Fruit Mandi have been built at a cost of around Rs 56 crore, a government spokesman said.
The Chief Minister said new facilities would provide relief to about thirty thousand people living in the areas.
Omar said development of roads and construction of bridges had been given priority during the past four years.
"Work for over a dozen of bridges in Srinagar has been completed and many more are in progress," he said.
A flyover has been opened for use in Jammu City and the fourth bridge on Tawi River has been completed, the Chief Minister said, adding that preliminary work for a flyover in Srinagar was going on in full swing.
