One dead, 6 injured in clash over water collection

A 65-year-old man died while six others including three women were injured in a clash that allegedly broke out over collection of water from a public hand pump in the Kulheri village here, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday when two groups of the same community clashed over collecting water, police said, adding the clash turned violent when lathis and sharp weapons were used by the villagers, which led to the death of one Khurshed.
Confrontation began when some woman tried to collect water and other women opposed it, police said.
Those injured were identified as Rauf, Farkan, Shakoor, Akhtari begum, Tahira Khatoon and Kaniz Fatma. All the injured were rushed to hospital in serious conditions.
Police said that a case has been registered against several unknown people in this connection.
