One person arrested in Rly engineer's death case

A Railway clerk has been arrested here in connection with the mysterious death of Railway engineer Saurabh Kumar here on September 22 last.
The clerk identified as Nagaraju, arrested from his Jain Nagar residence in Kharagpur town, has been sent to five-day police remand for further interrogation after being produced before the CJM court in Midnapore yesterday, a police official said.
The engineer used to stay alone and Nagaraju was the only person who used to visit him, police said, adding the postmortem report led to Nagaraju's arrest on Friday night.
The decomposed body of the 31-year-old railway officer was recovered from a railway quarter near Golbazar mosque, which was sublet to him by Nagaraju, in September last.
An engineering graduate from Birla Institute of Technology and Science at Sindri, Kumar worked as the chief depot material superintendent for the Kharagpur depot of the Railways.
On September 22, the police broke into his room following complaints by locals of a foul smell emanating from his room. Saurabh's body was recovered in a partly decomposed state.
Saurabh's elder brother Bipin Kumar and friends had alleged foul play given the mysterious circumstances in which his body was recovered. They even wrote to the Kharagpur police stating their apprehension over his death.
Post mortem report ascertained that the engineer had taken food laced with poison.
