An armed miscraeant fired on two persons at a busy Lakhipur bazaar area and escaped, district superintendent of police S M H Mirza said.
Happy Sheikh alias Hanif died on the spot while his accomplice Halim Sheikh was injured and being treated at the Shaktinagar hospital.
Police suspect the incident to be an intra-gang rivalry as the victims were known anti-social elements in the area and involved in several crimes.
Search is on to nab the miscreants.
