'One Stop Centre' for women subjected to violence inaugurated

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today inaugurated a 'One Stop Centre' in Solan district to provide assistance to those women who have been subjected to sexual harassment, domestic violence, among others.
The 'One Stop Centre' will provide assistance to women, irrespective of their age, who were mentally and physically tortured or were victims of atrocities of domestic violence, trafficking, sexual harassment, depression etc.
The chief minister, while appreciating the initiative, said that the women are the "pillars of the society and it is the moral duty to give them respect and honour they deserve."
He said that the opening of the centre was a welcome step and more such centers should be opened in other districts as well.

In the first phase, three such centres were proposed to be set up in Solan, Kangra and Mandi districts. The other two centers will be opened soon, he said.
The chief minister said that the expenses to run the centers in a befitting manner would be borne by the state government.

"These women can also stay in the centre for a week if they think they were not safe at home and they will be sent to Nari Seva Sadan, Mashobra," said Social Welfare, Justice, and Empowerment department Director Mansi Sahay Thakur.
These women will also be provided legal aid, counselling etc, she said.

Thakur said that a provision of security guards has also been made at the centre andservices of para-medical staff, police facilitating officers, counsellors, advocates will also be taken from time to time.
