Dubbing it as a "deliberate mischief" to malign it, Congress today approached the Election Commission against BJP over hoardings in poll-bound Delhi showing prices of onions and tomatoes at Rs 100 and Rs 80 a kg respectively.
In a complaint to the EC, Congress Legal Department Secretary K C Mittal wanted a direction to BJP for immediate removal of the hoardings which, it said, were "totally misleading".
"As a matter of fact, the price of onion has come down considerably after the Congress government in Delhi started selling it at cheaper rates after permission was granted by the EC," it said.
Claiming that such boards and hoardings are a "total distortion of facts and a false propaganda", Congress said the price of onions ranges between Rs 25 and Rs 50 and tomato from Rs 25 to Rs 48.
"The continuance of such boards and hoardings in different parts of Delhi/New Delhi is a deliberate mischief to malign Congress...And is in violation of the Model Code of Conduct," he told the EC.
He contended that such a "false propaganda" would even provoke hoarders and black-marketeers to resort to hoarding of essential commodities.
