"A legislation banning cow slaughter will not suffice... only awareness in the society can ensure an end to the practice," he said.
Bhagwat was asked as to whether cow slaughter could be stopped by enacting a law.
His comments came against the backdrop of the outrage and public outcry over the Dadri incident in which a person was killed on suspicion of storing and eating beef.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Chief said if society is organsied the country will be strong...And if the country is strong, there will be peace in the world.
