The heritage Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) between Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam was today cancelled as a big tree fell across the track between Kallar and Adeley stations, Railway officials said.
The cancellation minutes after the train had departed from Mettupalayam at 7.10 am came as a disappointment to the summer vacation tourists.
Besides the tree fall, there was also a landslide in the area, which delayed the track restoration work, the officials said.
About 140 passengers, who were keen to visit the flower show, were taken to Udhagamandalam by bus, they added.
