Operation by security forces contained extremism by 40%: Das

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today claimed that efforts by security personnel led to containing extremist activities by 40 per cent.
Das was speaking on the occasion of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's visit for inauguration of Eastern Sector Headquarters of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Residential Complex and also reviewed the security measures, an official release said.
Stating that the Jharkhand government was committed to wipe out Naxalism and extremism by 2017, Das said it was the efforts of the security forces that helped to contain naxal activities by 40 per cent in the state.
In 2016, he said, a huge quantity of arms and ammunition as well as explosives were recovered by launching 1609 anti-Naxal operations and 519 naxalites and their sympathizers were arrested.
The government has prepared 13 Focused Area Plan in Naxal-affected areas of the state and started developing basic facilities such as road, electricity, school, water and skill developing, he claimed.
Das said opening of Headquarters of the Eastern Sector would enhance the facilities of CISF personnel and also help improve employment opportunity to meritorious youths from the state.
The youth from naxal-hit areas were being recruited as police assistant, he said, adding that process has been completed to fill 2500 posts.
Besides, 8,314 police personnel were being recruited and a Primitive Tribe battalion was being raised for the first time in the country, Das said, adding that 1042 posts have already been filled.
The chief minister emphasised the need for technical up-gradation and training at regular interval for it.
Among others, Security Adivsor to the Home Ministry, K Vijay Kumar, Jharkhand Urban Development Minister C P Singh, Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, Additional Chief Secretary Amit Khare, CISF Director General O P Singh and DGP, Jharkhand D K Pandey were present on the occasion.
