An indefinite economic blockade called by Meler Janjati Sangharsh Morcha in Santal Paragan region since October 14 last was called off following a talk with Jharkhand Welfare Minister Dr. Louis Marandi at Dumka today.
The minister had a talk with the Morcha President Damodar Singh Meler and Secretary Vishwanath Isar Meler at Dumka Circuit House today and assured to arrange a meeting with Jharkhand Chief Minister after Durga Puja with regard to the demand of the Morcha to find out a solution.
Morcha leaders agreed to call off the indefinite blockade following the assurance from the minister but warned that the morcha will be forced to launch the agitation again if their demand was not heard in the meeting with the chief minister.
Marandi told newsmen that a decision under the constitution will be taken after the meeting between the representatives of the morcha and the chief minister but made it clear that the demand of morcha to include Bhuiyan, Ghatwal and Khetauri community in the adivasi (Schedule Tribe) category was to be taken by the Union Government.
She said BJP MP Nishikant Dubey have already taken up the issue with the Union Governemnt to include Bhuiyan, Ghatwal and Khetauri community in the Schedule Tribe category.
The morcha activists were enforcing the economic blockade by preventing commercial vehicles including mineral-laden trucks at different places since October 14 to mount pressure on the government in support of their demand but transporation of commercial vehicles will be restored after the agitation was called off.
